'Reign In Blood': Slayer

All hail Thrash Metal Legends, Slayer, with our collection of Tankards and Shot Glasses.

Here at Nemesis Now we love to sit back and relax, listening to the soothing sound of SLAYER! Their fast tremolo picking, double bass drumming, and shouted vocals just seem to calm our souls on a busy day in the office!

We were truly saddened to hear that after one last mammoth tour these Thrash Metal legends would be bringing down the curtain on their 37-year career!

Formed in 1981 by vocalist and bassist Tom Araya and guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, they began playing covers of songs from Iron Maiden and Judas priest at clubs and private functions in Southern California. In ’83, after opening for the band Bitch at the Woodstock Club in Anaheim, they were spotted by former music journalist and Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel and the rest you could say was history!

They began without any recording budgets and had to self-finance their debut album, combining the savings of Araya and money borrowed from King’s father. Slowly but surely their career started to take off by the release of their third album ‘Hell Awaits’, with fans choosing Slayer for best band, best live band, Hell Awaits, as 1985's best album, and Dave Lombardo as best drummer in the British magazine Metal Forces' 1985 Readers Poll.

Now with 12 albums under their metal studded belts, the days of self-finance are a distant memory. With colossal sounding collections such as Reign in Blood, Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven it is hard to try and think of another band that deserve the title of ‘Best Thrash Metal Band of all time’.

Heavily laden with lyrics covering murder, serial killers, necrophilia, genocide, human experimentation, Satanism, terrorism, religion, Nazism and war, their macabre themes have caused high levels of controversy throughout the years. The have been accused of encouraging murder through their lyrics, being Nazi sympathisers, White Supremacists and the lists goes on, with some of their albums even being banned and destroyed in certain countries!

Through all of the trials and tribulations they still managed to bring their music to the masses and for that we salute them! At Download 2019, Slayer will play their last UK show and to think that we will never have the pleasure of seeing them live again truly is a terrible fact. So what other way can we honour these members of the Big Four? By doing what we do best! Create giftware that even the Rock Gods would be proud of.

Our range of Slayer Tankards, Shot Glasses and Crystal Clear pictures are the perfect way to pay homage to these heavyweights and their longevity in the metal industry. Proudly displaying the notorious Eagle and Swords logo of the band, each piece will have you in awe.
